The below charts use data from Kentucky death certificates to provide a preliminary surveillance estimate of Kentucky resident drug overdose deaths. These reports use text analysis to identify suspected drug overdose deaths.These surveillance estimates should not be taken as official mortality statistics for the state.

Definitions

  1. Confirmed drug overdose deaths are defined as any death listing one of the following ICD-10 codes in the underlying cause of death field of the death certificate: X40–X44, X60–X64, X85, Y10–Y14.
  2. Suspected drug overdose deaths are identified through text analysis of the cause of death fields on the death certificate.
