Drug overdose deaths are defined as any death listing one of the folliowing ICD-10 codes in the underlying cause of death field of the death certificate: X40-X44, X60-X64, X85, Y10-Y14.
Opioid overdose deaths are defined as any drug overdose death listing at least one of the following ICD-10 codes in the supplemental cause of death fields of the death certificate: T40.0-T40.4, T40.6.
Heroin overdose deaths are defined as any drug overdose death listing the ICD-10 code T40.1 in one of the supplemental cause of death fields of the death certificate.
Fentanyl overdose deaths are defined as any drug overdose death listing the ICD-10 code T40.4 in one of the supplemental cause of death fields of the death certificate AND mentioning the term “fentanyl” in the cause of death or description of injury section of the death certificate.
Fentanyl analog overdose deaths are defined as any drug overdose death listing the ICD-10 code T40.4 in one of the supplemental cause of death fields of the death certificate AND mentioning a fentanyl analog in the cause of death or description of injury section of the death certificate.
Benzodiazepine overdose deaths are defined as any drug overdose death listing the ICD-10 code T42.4 in one of the supplemental cause of death fields of the death certificate.
Psychostimulant with abuse potential overdose deaths are defined as any drug overdose death listing the ICD-10 code T43.6 in one of the supplemental cause of death fields of the death certificate.
Prescription opioid overdose deaths are defined as any drug overdose death listing at least one of the following ICD-10 codes in the supplemental cause of death fields of the death certificate: T40.2-T40.4 AND no mention of fentanyl or fentanyl analog involvement.
