The Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center (KIPRC), established in 1994, is a unique partnership between the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) and the University of Kentucky College of Public Health.

KIPRC serves both as an academic injury prevention research center and as the KDPH’s designee or “bona fide agent” for statewide injury prevention and control, focusing on injury prevention translation and practice.

This state–university partnership provides KIPRC access to expertise and support in injury and violence-related research, data, services, outreach, communications, interventions, evaluation techniques, and policy development, at both the state government and academic levels.

KIPRC’s unique, mature partnership uses injury prevention research to inform and implement targeted interventions that are evaluated and adopted into local and state injury prevention practice. This ready translation of research into practice, in turn, informs further research to reduce injury and related death and disability. This process is embodied in KIPRC’s philosophy to conduct “injury prevention and control research to practice.”

Directions to KIPRC

  • From I-64/I-75: Start on I-64/I-75 in Lexington, Kentucky. Take Exit 115 for US-68/US-27 toward Lexington/Harrodsburg.  Merge onto Newtown Pike (US-68 W/US-27 S) heading south.  Continue on Newtown Pike for approximately 3 miles. Turn right onto Harrodsburg Road (US-68 W/US-27S).Continue on Harrodsburg Road for about 0.4 miles.  You will arrive at 2365 Harrodsburg Road, Southcreek Building B, Suite B475, on the right.
  • From the Bluegrass Parkway:  Head southeast on Bluegrass Pkwy (I-64 W) from wherever you enter the Bluegrass Parkway. Take Exit 72 for US-127 toward Lawrenceburg/Harrodsburg. Merge onto US-127 S/US-127 Bypass S. Continue on US-127 S for approximately 17 miles until you reach Harrodsburg. In Harrodsburg, turn right onto US-68 W/US-127 S (Perryville Road). Continue on US-68 W/US-127 S for about 16 miles, and it will become Harrodsburg Road as you enter Lexington. Continue on Harrodsburg Road for approximately 5 miles. You will arrive at 2365 Harrodsburg Road, Southcreek Building B, Suite B475, on the right.
  • From Frankfort via US 60:  Head east on US-60 E (Versailles Road) from Frankfort.  Continue on US-60 E for about 16 miles until you reach Lexington.  Turn left onto Versailles Road/US-60 E.  After about 1.5 miles, merge onto Blue Grass Parkway East (I-64 E/I-75 S) toward Winchester/Lexington.  Take Exit 115 for US-68/US-27 toward Lexington/Harrodsburg.  Merge onto Newtown Pike (US-68 W/US-27 S) heading south.  Continue on Newtown Pike for approximately 3 miles.  Turn right onto Harrodsburg Road (US-68 W/US-27 S).  Continue on Harrodsburg Road for about 0.4 miles. You will arrive at 2365 Harrodsburg Road, Southcreek Building B, Suite B475, on the right.
