
Preventing Injuries with Every Step 5K Set for September 14
The University of Kentucky College of Public Health (CPH), in partnership with the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center (KIPRC), is excited to host the inaugural Preventing Injuries with Every Step 5K on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Coldstream Park in Lexington. The race celebrates 20 years of CPH’s impact on public health and offers a fun, active way for students, faculty, staff, and community members to come together at the start of the new semester.
“This event is more than just a race, it’s a celebration of public health and a reflection of our commitment to promoting safer, healthier communities in Kentucky,” said Amber Kizewski Operations Director of KIPRC. “We invite everyone to join us in raising awareness about injury prevention while enjoying a fun and active day.”
Participants of all ages can join in, whether you’re a competitive runner, leisurely walker, or cheerleader at home. The event includes the following options:
- A 5K Run/Walk along the flat, scenic Legacy Trail
- A 1-mile Fun Walk (untimed)
- A FREE Kid’s Dash for children aged 9 and under
The race features chip timing by RaceRise, with awards for the top three male and female overall finishers and for the top three male and female finishers in five-year age groups. Every registrant receives a commemorative T-shirt sponsored by Hicks & Funfsinn, PLLC, and all attendees will enjoy free race photos.
The event will also include:
- A food truck and live DJ to keep the celebration going
- Injury prevention stations offering safety tips for runners and walkers
Schedule:
- Packet pickup & on-site registration: 12:30–1:45 p.m. at Coldstream Dog Park (look for the orange/blue RaceRise tent)
- Kid’s Dash: 1:45 p.m.
- 5K Run/Walk: 2:00 p.m. start; 1-Mile Fun Walk begins shortly after
Those unable to attend in person can participate virtually: Register as a Virtual Runner/Walker by September 13 to participate from anywhere in the U.S. and receive your commemorative shirt by mail.
Registration:
- 5K Run/Walk – $35
- 1-Mile Fun Walk – $25 (price increases after August 31)
- Virtual Runner/Walker – $30 (register by Sept. 13)
- Kid’s Dash – Free (no registration fee)
